One of the keys is that every region is different, and we are an international company now. We sell games in Asia, Europe and North America, and we just now released WoW in Russia and Latin America. Were going to try and hit as many markets as we can, and were going to look at each one of those markets and try and decide a financial model that works. So, if we were to say, for example, that were not going to have any subscription fees for Diablo, that may not be true in some markets, so we cant really say that.

Is our intent to make a subscription-based game like World of Warcraft? No. Were not an MMO. Thats not our goal. So we are leaning towards more of a boxed product. Would we consider microtransactions? Yes, we would -- if it was right for the game. Would we consider some kind of subscription-based, or pay-to-play? Maybe in some regions. Or maybe for North America, if it was right for the game, and if it felt like a "win" for the fans. We want to make money, obviously, were in business for that, but we dont want to gouge our customers, we dont want them to have an experience that feels worse. What we prefer is to offer them a service that they feel is worth paying for. And thats how we tend to approach things: "This is a service that we want to offer. How much is it going to cost us? OK, its going to cost us this much, so we do need to supplement. Is it something we feel is worth paying for?" And if the answer is yes... obviously, no one likes paying for anything. Id love to get everything for free. That would be awesome, right? But the truth is, we wouldnt ever get anything.

Jay Wilson: Wed like there to be a dedicated PvP mode, and wed like to move away from [how it worked in previous Diablo games] where players just enabled PvP. We dont have any specific plans yet because we havent really made any active decisions. The only real PvP-oriented decision that weve made and announced is that we do not allow the "hostility mode" that Diablo II had where you can go into town, go hostile, pop back through a town portal, and insta-kill your friend. That just makes people not want to play the game. I know some people say, "Oh, youre taking the teeth out of Diablo." I understand why they feel that way, but making people not want to play together does not make for a better game. Thats our feeling.

We definitely want there to be a PvP mode for PvP players, and we would like that mode to be a really serious, skill-based, very strong [aspect of the game]. I feel that on the side of all our games, we really try to make PvP games that cater to a competitive player, first and foremost. We dont try to dumb down or tone down our PvP games. We make [them] good, strong competitive games. StarCraft is one of the best examples. But in terms of what our actual plans are for Diablo III, we dont have anything to specifically announce right now, mostly because were still messing around with a bunch of different ideas.
